The Truth About Motivation
Motivation Is Worthless
Motivation, like willpower, is worthless. Sure it can get your ass moving and doing something you'd rather not do, but if you continually have to get motivated or call up your willpower, you're not really interested in making the change you're saying you want to make.
If that's you, then quit.
Quit using your "willpower", which is another word for fighting against yourself, and quit looking to be motivated.
In reality, there are only 3 ways to get someone or yourself to move:
Enticement is a bribe.
Intimidation is fear.
Inspiration, though, is hope.
Inspiration shows you what's possible. It's a deeply emotional connection between who you are and where you want to be.
People ask me if I'm a 'motivational speaker' at times. My answer is always the same.
Sure, I can get you all riled up like a football team at halftime, but without the tools, without the vision....what good is it?
No, I seek to inspire. To help you clearly see and articulate a vision of who and what you want to be. I seek to instill hope in you and, as we all know...
You're rebelling against where you are and who you are. You're rebelling against all of those people telling you who and what you should be, how you should act, how you should look....
You're rebelling against conformity.
So, no, I'm not here to motivate you to change.
I'm here to inspire you to rebel.
And that beats the shit out of motivation any day.
